Margaret Mead
Our Founder
Mona Gonzalez founded River City Youth Foundation 36 years ago as a first generation college graduate of UT Austin. Her life's work has been dedicated to bridging the education and poverty gaps for youth and their families.
.Gonzalez is credited with pioneering Austin's first neighborhood-based service model that has involved signature RCYF programs over the decades on topics such as fathership, community restoration, juvenile delinquency and digital literacy. Today, Gonzalez and her RCYF team focus on championing youth and parent progress in the southeast Austin community of Dove Springs.
A native of Brownsville, Texas, Gonzalez is the recipient of numerous local, regional and national awards having been recognized by organizations such as Keep America Beautiful, PBS, American Red Cross, and Glimmer of Hope.

Our Volunteers
More than 700 volunteers serve each year at River City Youth Foundation. They are very much a lifeline to RCYF helping the agency reach thousands of children and parents in southeast Austin. Volunteers do everything from managing IT networks and landscaping to classroom teaching and providing event support. RCYF has a dozen community events annually where volunteers play a crucial role, including Merry Memories, I Heart Tech, TechPromotora and Summer Camps. RCYF is grateful for all its amazing volunteers!
